Our new ‘best mates’ (sorry trioVD .. but we need friends!!) tore it up at the Cafe Contemporary in Nottingham on Thursday.
GO AND SEE THEM!
Very much music of the moment .. astonishingly executed … pandl was very excited and handsomely rewarded for getting off it’s ass to attend this FREE gig. Where were the rest of you? ..
Here’s a taster of the wonder that is trio VD

Hey! .. pandl is back from the NSJF in Rotterdam and a fab time was had by all ….
This was pandl‘s first trip to Holland and we liked:
the people
the beer
the weather
coffee shops
public transport (… amazing!)
the vibe
The festival takes place at The Ahoy … a colossal entertainment/conference facility just adjacent to Zuidplein metro station. It seems to hold millions of people … who we ambled our way through during set changeovers and general wandering.
The temperature was a pretty respectable 30 ish (0C) … considering this and the massed crowds things were very relaxed indeed … the only people who seemed to be struggling were pandl themselves, who were not above exchanging a few short-tempered words at times !
The main hall that accommodated the likes of Pat Metheny, Tower of Power, Buddy Guy and the likes was HUGE … but TV screens reminded you that there were people playing on the stage somewhere. The more intimate rooms were much more satisfactory … great sound for Tord Gustavsen and Tomasz Stanko and thanks to the football being shown on Sunday (and hence distracting attention) we had pretty cosy sets from Jaga Jazzist, Nick Bartsch’s Ronin and Eivind Aarset’s Sonic Codex Orchestra – who were all fab and four our money the most interesting acts we saw.
So … in case you didn’t go here’s a few pikkies:
If you like the more traditional Jazz thing then here is another perspective:
Terribly sorry .. but I made a terrible omission from the last post. Here is a little outpouring from a delicate soul:

pandl is very excited about visiting the Northsea Jazz Festival
The original plan was to go to the Kongsberg Jazz Festival but it seems that travel and mere existence on Norway is actually impossible unless you have sold your 50% stake in Halliburton beforehand
…. meanwhile one of our number has been toying with a more linear approach
